Market Day

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because … We got to have another chance and Because we worked as a team and we worked better than the first time.

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made this…

Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was… Making bath bombs and stress balls with Grace and together we worked good as a team

Next time I would… Made more stress balls because they got sold out quickly

How to bottle flip like an expert

Hello welcome back.

For my reading group we have been learning about how to bottle flip like an expert. First thing we did is went to go and get a drink bottle and fill it up to 6 cm. Then we went out side and tired it out. We learnt that if you fill is up to full it want land as much as it would if you filled it up to 6 cm. I landed 20 in total but I think I would of got more if I got time. It was a very fun and interesting to learn about and I hope to do something more like it  again.

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?First we brainstormed what culture is
and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is……
When you learn different Cultures from different countries.

Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage.
I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.In Literacy we read and discussed myths and
legends from around the world then we concentrated on
Maori legends. I read….(The legend of Robin Hood ) We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains.
Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork,
some worked
hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and
drama.
Photo: Reflection: For our production I contributed by... Art, Making a poster, coloured the un finish
koh phi phi patters and cutting them out

I think the show might impact on others by... making them be happy and also they might want to talk a
bout more Maori culture

What I learned about working with others was... its better working as a team then by yourself you can get
ideas and you can get it done quicker

Swimming

Hi welcome back to another blog post. 2 weeks ago my school did swimming lessons. We hopped in the red bus and drove to Graham Condon. We had to do a test to find out what group we were going in. So we had to jump in the pool one at a time and start doing freestyle. A man told me to go in lane 6  which means I was in the top group With some of my friends. I was very happy with what I got put in. Then a man came in and hopped in the pool and intruded him self and his name was Stephan. He was a nice man. Then the next couple of days we did life saving. It was really fun. Here are some pictures of us jumping in the pool and going in the boat.
